Marriage Upgrade: 3 Ways to Face Tomorrow in your Marriage

This is the third and last part of the Marriage Upgrade series based on the Marriage Boosters seminar we attended last year. The first two had been about marital issues and how they’re not what they seem, and crucial conversations husbands and wives need to have. For this one, it’s all about creating the future in our marriage. Marriage can be a very challenging journey, but despite the difficulties we have to face along the way, a wonderful future is still possible by the grace of God. It’s been months since Marriage Boosters, I may miss some points that were […]

Christmas Traditions 2016: Thanksgiving and the Christmas Tree

Our Christmas season kicked off 6 days late this year. I honestly do not remember our December being as toxic as this year –We had the kids’ musicale, with rehearsals and photo shoots leading to their show date; Jay had a lot of events at work; our 7-year old Lukas joined this year’s Christmas eve service special number, and us madly scrambling to do as much home school as we could before the Christmas break. Marriage Upgrade: Crucial Conversations between husband and wife

The second session of Marriage Boosters, A Marriage Upgrade was all about Crucial Conversations. I blogged about the first session of this marriage seminar last month which was about when the issue at hand is NOT really the issue, and how tensions arise from situations that trigger a spouse to react negatively to something the other did or did not do. Pastor Jojo and Ida Henson began by likening crucial conversations to the metaphorical “elephant in […]

Marriage Upgrade: When the issue is NOT the issue

Jay and I have been attending Marriage Boosters, A Marriage Upgrade the past two Wednesdays with our church at Victory Fort. We prioritize these kinds of activities that would help us strengthen our marriage and identify areas that we need to work on as a married couple. And marriages take a lot of work, don’t they? We’re on our 12th year and it’s just as challenging, sometimes even more, as on our first year. If there was one thing we’ve learned from people we consider our mentors, it’s to invest in our marriage and make these opportunities to do so a priority. […]

The wonders of saying “please” and “thank you (to your husband)

It’s been three weeks since I’ve become intentional in saying “please” and “thank you” to my husband. I’ve  been reading this book called “The Peaceful Wife” by April Cassidy and using these words (on my husband) more often is my first course of action to grow in my marriage. Just to give you a bit of a background, The Peaceful Wife is a book on marriage, mainly focusing on the relationship between wives with dominant personalities and husbands with passive personalities. It provides a biblical perspective on a wife’s submission to her husband. Jay and I have been married for 12 years and admittedly, […]
